Barricaded Fugitive Captured After Falling Through Ceiling

SAN ANGELO, TX — A two-day manhunt for a wanted fugitive ended Thursday morning when Joe Lucio, 40, was taken into custody after barricading himself inside a home on Gregory Drive and falling through the ceiling during a standoff.

According to the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted Lucio outside a residence in the 1400 block of Gregory Drive around 11:05 a.m. Lucio fled into the home and refused to come out, prompting a response from the Special Response Team.

Lucio, wanted for felony bail jumping and failure to appear, reportedly hid in the attic as deputies deployed chemical munitions. He fell partially through the ceiling while trying to avoid the chemical agents and was apprehended without further incident.

He was booked into the Tom Green County Detention Center at 2:11 p.m. and is being held without bond. Jail records list additional charges under a U.S. Marshal hold.

The sheriff’s office credited assistance from the San Angelo Police Department, Texas DPS, and the FBI in the operation.
