Fatal Stabbing Leads to Murder Charge in Downtown San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A 32-year-old man died early Saturday after being stabbed during a late-night altercation downtown, according to San Angelo police.

On March 21, 2026, at 1:29 a.m., San Angelo Public Safety Communications received a report of a stabbing in the 100 block of East Concho Avenue. Responding officers located Mark Palacio suffering from stab wounds near the parking lot of the former Western Mattress building. He was transported to Shannon Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries several hours later despite extensive lifesaving efforts by medical staff.

The investigation revealed that the incident stemmed from an earlier altercation at the Pour House bar on Paint Rock Road. The involved parties later moved downtown, where they were denied entry to Ranch 125. They then entered an adjoining parking lot, where a second fight broke out.

During this altercation, Palacio was stabbed in the abdomen. The other parties fled the scene, and Palacio collapsed in the street while attempting to leave the area.

Detectives identified all individuals involved. Johnny Fernandez, 41, of San Angelo, was arrested and charged with murder. His bond was set at $1,000,000.

Pedro Rivera, 25, also of San Angelo, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. According to Police Chief Travis Griffith, the investigation showed that Rivera wielded a knife and threatened Palacio with it during the altercation.

This is the second homicide in San Angelo in the last four days after a 16-year-old was stabbed to death by a 17-year-old on Wednesday.
