ICE Should Continue Traffic Stops Despite Recent Shootings, Trump Says

WASHINGTON — The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency should continue vehicle stops despite recent fatal shootings, President Donald Trump said Wednesday.

ICE is “doing a GREAT job, one that has to be done,” Trump wrote on his social media site, Truth Social.

Trump said that to remove criminals that were let into the country under the Biden administration “we must be strong, tough, and smart, and we CANNOT give up one of ICE’s most important and effective Crime Fighting tools, THE TRAFFIC STOP!” Trump said, “Once we do, we are playing right into the criminal’s hands.”

ICE has faced renewed criticism — particularly from Democrats and liberal media outlets — after two illegal immigrants were killed last week, each time after ICE officers said they were nearly run over during traffic stops.

A third immigrant was killed Tuesday when he was hit by a tractor trailer while running from immigration and other federal officers.

ICE began ramping up deportation efforts last year following millions of illegal immigrants being allowed into the country during Joe Biden’s presidency from 2021 to 2025.

Two highly publicized deaths occurred in Minneapolis last year — both of which involved U.S. citizens — when Renee Good and Alex Pretti were killed by ICE agents.

In each case, Good and Pretti were actively interfering in ICE activities. Good struck an ICE officer with her vehicle before being shot, while Pretti angrily confronted ICE agents — days after kicking out the tail light of an ICE vehicle — before being tackled and shot when they discovered a gun on him.

As is often the case, Republicans have chosen to side with law enforcement, while Democrats and most of mainstream media have sympathized with those being accused of breaking the law.

Earlier this year, a Marist poll found that 91% of Democrats disapproved of the job ICE was doing, while 77% of Republicans supported it.

Because so many media outlets choose to distort the truth based on whether they’re catering to a Republican or Democrat audience, the public’s perception of events can often vary wildly, and the recent ICE shootings are just another example.
