SAN ANGELO, TX — The O.H. Ivie and O.C. Fisher reservoirs were stocked Wednesday with Lone Star Bass fingerlings by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.
O.H. Ivie, located about 55 miles east of San Angelo, received approximately 115,000 fingerlings. O. C. Fisher at San Angelo State Park was stocked with approximately 50,000.
TPWD biologists loaded the fish onto a boat in small batches and released them into the best available cover or vegetation they could find.
Lone Star Bass are the descendants of Legacy Class ShareLunkers (13 pounds or more) and are pure Florida strain largemouth bass. They earned the nickname “Lone Star Bass” to denote their special significance to Texas.
The unique fish are made possible by the partnership with anglers who loan their fish to the Texas ShareLunker program.
The fingerlings have the genetic potential to grow to trophy size.
