SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for portions of west central Texas on Thursday afternoon, warning of possible flooding from excessive rainfall starting this evening.
The watch covers Concho, Crockett, Irion, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch, Menard, San Saba, Schleicher, Sutton and Tom Green counties. It takes effect at 9 p.m. CDT Thursday and continues through Friday evening.
Forecasters said showers and thunderstorms will develop along the I-10 corridor this evening, with additional storms moving into the Concho Valley and Heartland after midnight. Rain will continue through Friday, with totals of 1 to 3 inches possible and localized amounts up to 5 inches.
Excessive runoff could flood rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas. Flooding is also possible in poor drainage and urban spots, and low-water crossings may become impassable, the NWS said.
The watch includes the cities of San Angelo, Eden, Brady, Mason, Sonora, Junction, Menard, Ozona, Mertzon and Eldorado, among others.
Residents should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to act if flooding develops, especially those in flood-prone areas. The NWS urged alertness for possible Flood Warnings.
