Extreme Heat Warning Issued for San Angelo Area

SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for western Big Country, the Concho Valley, the Heartland and northwest Hill Country through 10 p.m. Thursday, with temperatures and heat indices expected to reach 110 to 115 degrees in some spots.

Highs and heat indices elsewhere across the region are forecast to hit 105 to 110 degrees under a heat advisory. Some locations in the Concho Valley and northwest Hill Country could peak near 115 degrees, the NWS said.

The dangerous heat comes as scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Thursday afternoon and evening, with the heaviest rain likely south of Interstate 20. Some storms could produce very heavy rainfall in short periods, raising the risk of localized flash flooding of roads, creeks and low-lying areas through Friday.

A brief cooldown is expected Friday and Saturday before temperatures climb back into the mid-90s to low 100s next week. Thunderstorm chances remain elevated into Saturday morning before tapering off.
