SAN ANGELO, TX — In the first batch of unofficial results released Tuesday night, Tom Green County voters strongly backed Attorney General Ken Paxton over U.S. Sen. John Cornyn in the Republican primary runoff for U.S. Senate.
Paxton led Cornyn 3,194 votes to 1,806, or 63.9% to 36.1%, according to cumulative totals posted shortly after 8:30 p.m. that included absentee, early and initial election-day ballots.
The results mirrored statewide trends, where Paxton held a commanding lead of about 63% with more than half the expected vote counted.
In the Republican runoff for attorney general, state Sen. Mayes Middleton held a narrow edge over U.S. Rep. Chip Roy, 2,515 votes to 2,427, or 50.9% to 49.1%. Statewide, Middleton led by roughly 56%.
For railroad commissioner, Jim Wright led Bo French 2,469 votes to 2,332, or 51.4% to 48.6%.In the race for judge on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, Place 3, Thomas Smith led Alison Fox 2,623 votes to 1,971, or 57.1% to 42.9%.
Turnout in the Democratic runoffs was far lower. State Rep. Vikki Goodwin led Marcos Isaias Velez for lieutenant governor, 464 votes to 242, or 65.7% to 34.3%. State Sen. Nathan Johnson led former Galveston Mayor Joe Jaworski for attorney general, 366 votes to 338, or 52.0% to 48.0%.
