SAN ANGELO, TX — A Tom Green County woman has filed a lawsuit alleging negligence after her minor daughter suffered severe injuries in an ATV rollover accident in February 2021.
Kristi Large filed a first amended petition in the 340th District Court against Monte Van Veghel, Randi Van Veghel, and Whitetail Rental, LLC.
The petition alleges that on or about Feb. 5, 2021, around 7 p.m., the minor was operating an ATV on property associated with Whitetail Rental, LLC, under the supervision of the Van Veghels. The vehicle allegedly rolled three times, pinning the girl underneath and causing neck injuries and de-gloving of her right leg that required skin grafts.
The suit claims the defendants negligently entrusted the ATV to an unfit minor, failed to properly supervise her, and did not call 911 after the accident, instead moving her to a truck and bathroom. The mother allegedly arrived later and summoned emergency services.
Large accuses the defendants of negligent entrustment, negligent supervision and general negligence, seeking damages for medical expenses, pain and suffering. In separate original answers, the Van Veghels generally denied the allegations and demanded strict proof.
Whitetail Rental, LLC, also generally denied the claims, stated it does not own the property where the incident allegedly occurred, asserted affirmative defenses including contributory negligence, and demanded strict proof.
A summary judgment hearing was held on Jan. 12, 2026.
A jury trial is scheduled for Jan. 26, 2026.
