ASU Lecture Explores American Revolution in Borderlands and Indian Country

SAN ANGELO, TX - Angelo State University will present the second installment of the public lecture series, U.S.A. 250th & Texas: The Concho Valley Commemorates U.S. Independence, on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 6 p.m. in the Houston Harte University Center at 1910 Rosemont Drive on campus.

Dr. John William Nelson, an associate professor of Early American history at Texas Tech University, will deliver a special presentation on the American Revolution titled "Borderlands of Revolution: American Independence along its Western Margins."

The event is free and open to the public in the University Center's C.J. Davidson Conference Center, and light refreshments will be served.

Nelson's presentation will focus on the American Revolution in Indian Country and the Spanish Borderlands. Since much of the American West, including Texas, was controlled by Native American tribes and the Spanish at the time, he will examine how people in these areas interacted with wider events.

ASU's Dr. Arnoldo De Leon Department of History is partnering with the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark to present the series of public speaker programs on the American Revolution to highlight our nation's 250th anniversary. Future presentations are scheduled for March and April at sites that will alternate between Fort Concho and ASU.
