SAN ANGELO, TX — The National Weather Service in San Angelo is warning of elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions across much of West Central Texas on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, as dry air, breezy winds and warm temperatures combine with abundant dry fuels.
Any fires that ignite could spread quickly and become difficult to control, forecasters said. Officials urged residents to avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could spark accidental fires, especially during the afternoon and evening when conditions will peak.
Humidity is expected to drop to 10% to 15%, with west winds at 15 to 20 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. High temperatures will reach 85 to 90 degrees across the region, including near 89 degrees in San Angelo, 90 in Junction, and mid-to-upper 80s in areas like Abilene, Brownwood and Brady.
Dry conditions are expected to persist all week with no rainfall in the forecast. Temperatures will warm significantly from cooler conditions Sunday — highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s with northeast to east winds at 5 to 10 mph — to very warm midweek levels.
Tuesday and Thursday will also see elevated fire weather risks, forecasters noted.
The National Weather Service advises heightened caution with any potential ignition sources through the week.
