Can the Bobcats Stop Their Losing Streak?

SAN ANGELO, TX — Several Concho Valley High School Basketball teams play district matchups on Friday, Jan. 27, across Texas. Here is the preview of those matchups.

SAN ANGELO CENTRAL BOBCATS (17-9)(1-3) AND LADY CATS (15-12)(4-2)

San Angelo Central hosts the Frenship Tigers (24-3)(5-0) in San Angelo on Friday night, starting with the girls at 6:00 p.m. The Lady Cats fell to the Lady Tigers (23-5)(6-0) in Wolfforth the first time they played each other. The Lady Tigers have a stranglehold on first place and are the best team in the district. Alyssa Barron, Jewels Perez, and Nevaeh Hearne need to have their best foot forward for a chance to beat Frenship.

The Bobcats head into this matchup riding a three-game losing streak. Besides the inexplicable shooting night from the Permian Panthers, the Bobcats played each game they lost close, with the game against Odessa High going to overtime. Their schedule does not get any easier as the Frenship Tigers might be even better than their Female counterparts. Central’s talented defense needs to come to bear, and they must stay disciplined on the offensive side of the floor if they want to win.

WALL HAWKS (13-8)(6-2) AND No. 14 LADY HAWKS (23-4)(8-2)

Wall hosts the Clyde Bulldogs at Wall High School on Friday night starting at 6:15 p.m. The Lady Hawks defeated the Lady Bulldogs (13-6)(4-6) in their first matchup, and this time should not be any different. Look for Brylyn Watts to have another big game.

The Hawks also defeated the Bulldogs (17-8)(5-3) in their first matchup. The Bulldogs played the Hawks much closer than the girls, and a win is in no way guaranteed. Everson Armstrong needs to take over this game on both sides of the floor to secure victory. Wall relies on its 3-point shooting much of the time, but if those shots do not fall, they have to score in the paint.

TLCA EAGLES (21-5)(7-1) AND LADY EAGLES (2-21)(0-10)

The TLCA Eagles host the Grape Creek Eagles at the TLCA Athletic complex starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m. In this rematch, the Lady Eagles have their best chance to snag a win in their district season. It’s been rough for these ladies, but they continue to show up and play hard.

The Eagles continue to stomp their way through their district season, and the game against Grape Creek will be no different. The Wall Hawks dismantled Grape Creek on Tuesday night, and TLCA might do more damage than the Hawks did. TLCA needs to focus on perfecting their game in this matchup. They do not need to get overconfident, as they still have another matchup with Wall on their schedule.

CHRISTOVAL COUGARS (15-12)(6-2) AND LADY COUGARS (17-11)(9-1)

The Cougars travel to Ozona to play the Lions on Friday starting at 6:30 p.m. The Lady Cougars get their second shot at the district-leading Lady Lions in what could decide the district championship. Coach Brady Clark said his girls are ready to play, which will be a good one to keep an eye on.

The Cougars have an easier matchup than the ladies, as the Lions are not as good as in years past. Look for Jaron Slayton to pull most of the weight for the Cougars on their way to another district victory.
