Cowboys and OC Kellen Moore Part Ways; Moore to the Chargers

FRISCO, TX — The Dallas Cowboys announced on Sunday evening, Jan. 29, that they are parting ways with Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore. After a promising 2022 campaign where the Cowboys had one of the most dynamic offenses in the league, Dallas’ offense petered out at the end of the year and in their playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers.

The move comes a week after the Cowboys lost to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs. Dallas scored just 12 points in the loss, which came against seventh-round rookie quarterback Brock Purdy.

Moore had success in his first four seasons as the Cowboys offensive coordinator, ranking 6th, 17th, 1st, and 4th in the NFL. The Cowboys may be looking for someone to help Dak Prescott return to form from four seasons ago when he made the pro bowl.

This season, Prescott led the league in interceptions despite missing time due to injury. He had an elite performance again the 7-9 Tampa Bay Buccaneers but fell flat against the 49ers with one of his worst games on the season. The two interceptions he threw in the divisional round ultimately sunk the Cowboys’ chances at another title.

Moore is expected to take the Offensive Coordinator position for the Los Angeles Chargers next season. In L.A., Moore is replacing offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, who was fired after a 10-7 season that ended in a historic meltdown to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card round.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy will take over play-calling duties for the Cowboys. McCarthy called the plays for over ten seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
