SAN ANGELO, TX — Here are our top 10 wide receivers to watch heading into the upcoming 2025 high school football season in West Texas:
Jimmy Edwards, San Angelo Central, Sr.
When Central lost top wide receiver Colton Hill to a season-ending injury in Week 2, Edwards gave the Bobcats more production than they could have hoped for with 49 catches for 825 yards and 10 touchdowns. Even if Hill returns to the receiving corps this year (he’s also in the mix to be the starting QB), Edwards has established himself as a No. 1 wide receiver in his own right.

Braylon White, San Angelo Lake View, Sr.
The 6-foot-2, 185-pound White gives the Chiefs size and playmaking ability. He had 57 catches for 786 yards and nine TDs last year — an average of 13.8 yards per grab — to earn first-team all-district honors. He will again be the top target for returning quarterback Chris Alvizo.

Reid Robertson, Wall, Sr.
Robertson is the leader of a dangerous Wall receiving corps. He had team-highs last year in catches (60), yards (913) and TDs (12). He is a 6-foot-1 target who runs a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash, and he could be even better this fall with QB Landon York returning to operate Wall’s second year in the spread offense.

Wall High School standout wide receiver Reid Robertson has received his first college offer from Angelo State University.
Colton Hill, San Angelo Central, Sr.
Hill had a breakout sophomore season two years ago with 57 catches for 854 yards and four TDs. Unfortunately, his junior season was derailed with a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2. If the 6-2, 175-pound Hill is healthy and playing at receiver again this year, he’ll be one of the best in West Texas. He’s also in the mix to become Central’s starting QB, however, so we don’t know where Hill will be lining up when the season begins.

Evan Boehle, Wall, Jr.
With all of the playmakers around him, it was easy to overlook the strong season Boehle put together last year during the Hawks’ run to the state semifinals. He stepped in as a sophomore and had 42 catches for 714 yards and nine TDs. He has 4.5 speed and will burn teams looking to focus their attention on Reid Robertson.
Nate Samaniego, Robert Lee, Sr.
The 5-foot-7, 120-pound Samaniego may not have prototypical size and speed for a top receiver, but he hauled in first-team all-state accolades last year. He was the Steers’ top target with 34 catches for 727 yards and 16 TDs, averaging 21.4 yards per catch. With his great hands and route-running ability, Samaniego will again be the player spread back Brenner Sherwood looks to most this fall.
Gavin Johnson, San Angelo Central, Jr.
Johnson is a speed threat for the Bobcats who showed flashes of potential last year as a sophomore, when he was named first-team all-district. He had 20 catches for 327 yards and two TDs. He was also a dangerous kick returner, highlighted by an 80-yard TD against Midland High.
Kellan Oliver, Wall, Sr.
Oliver was a solid possession receiver last year for the Hawks with 26 catches for 350 yards and five TDs. He’s one of three returning receivers for Wall’s high-flying spread offense, and the 6-foot-2 Oliver should garner even more targets this season.
Omrie Johnson, Reagan County, Sr.
Johnson is a receiver with 4.5 speed who is poised to take over as the Owls’ No. 1 target. He displayed remarkable big-play ability last year by turning 15 catches into 435 yards and five TDs, an average of 29 yards per catch.
Cristian Esparza, San Angelo Lake View, Sr.
In seven games last year, Esparza gave a glimpse of what he could be capable of with 14 catches for 308 yards and three TDs. He should step into an increased role this season.
Top 5 Tight Ends
Casner Stribling, San Angelo Central, Sr.
Stribling was a first-team all-district tight end for Central’s high-scoring offense, due largely in part to his strong blocking. The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder also had 13 catches for 241 yards and a TD.
Garrett Walling, Eldorado, Sr.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Walling was a solid part of Eldorado’s offense with 26 catches for 332 yards and four TDs. He helped the Eagles reach their first 7-on-7 state tournament since 2021.
Bode Bierschwale, Junction, Sr.
The 6-foot-2, 205-pound Bierschwale gives the Eagles a big target in the passing game. He had 16 catches for 329 yards and six TDs last year, and he helped the Eagles reach their first 7-on-7 state tournament over the summer.
Evan Arredondo, Sonora, Jr.
Arredondo is an imposing figure for the Broncos at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds. He helped Sonora qualify for the 7-on-7 state tournament, and he should be one of quarterback Aaron Segura’s favorite receivers this fall.
JP Garza, Ozona, Sr.
Garza was a first-team all-district tight end and linebacker for the Lions last year. He’s heading into his fourth year as a starter for Ozona.
