PORTALES, NM — No. 8 Angelo State will open Lone Star Conference play on the road Saturday as the Rams travel to face Eastern New Mexico at Al Whitehead Field.
Angelo State (2-0) enters the contest riding momentum after a commanding 41-20 win over Emporia State, in which the Rams forced four turnovers and scored 20 points in the first four minutes. Eastern New Mexico (0-2) is still looking for its first win of the season.
Angelo State capitalized early against Emporia State, with an 80-yard touchdown from Corey Sandolph opening the scoring. Quarterback Kaeden Smith came off the bench and accounted for three touchdowns — two through the air to Hunter Wallis and one rushing.
On defense, Demetrias Charles led the effort with two interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown, earning him Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors. The Rams have now forced at least one interception in 17 straight games and lead NCAA Division II with five interceptions this season.
The Rams hold a 29-18-1 advantage in the all-time series against the Greyhounds. In their last meeting on Sept. 14, 2024, Angelo State held off a late rally by ENMU to win 26-20 in San Angelo.

The Greyhounds dropped their most recent game, 28-7, to Colorado Mesa and are averaging 17.5 points and 348.5 yards of offense per game. Quarterback Chad Ragle ranks third in the LSC in rushing (79.5 yards per game) and has thrown for three touchdowns.
Defensively, ENMU is giving up 31 points and 426.5 yards per game. Linebacker Matthew Quartieri leads the Greyhounds with 18 tackles.
ENMU was picked to finish eighth in the LSC preseason poll.
