Friday Night Roundup: Ozona’s Villarreal Continues Ridiculous Start to Season

MILES, TX — Ozona running back Christian Villarreal delivered another spectacular performance Friday in the Lions’ 56-14 win over Miles.

Villarreal had 19 carries for 348 yards and six touchdowns, along with a pair of two-point conversions.

His start to the season has been so incredible that this game actually dropped his average.

Villarreal has piled up 1,772 rushing yards and 23 TDs in five games — an average of 354 yards per game at the halfway point of the regular season.

Ozona returned all five of its starting offensive linemen from last year, and they’ve helped pave the way for the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Villarreal to run wild as the Lions have climbed to No. 9 in the state rankings.

After a bye next week, Ozona will start District 3-2A Division I play at home against Reagan County.

Ozona improved to 5-0 with Friday’s win, while Miles fell to 1-4. The Bulldogs are also off next week before hosting Albany to begin 7-2A D-II play.
