No. 7 Angeo State Splits Weekend Series with Texas Woman's

 

SAN ANGELO, TX  — Angelo State split an LSC doubleheader with Texas Woman’s on Sunday at Mayer Softball Field, dropping the opener 1-0 before rebounding with an 8-3 win.

Game 1

Texas Woman’s scored the only run of the first game in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Hawwa Townsend. The Rambelles were limited to one hit, a two-out double by Karli Manney in the fifth inning.

Ashleigh Dendas pitched a complete game for Angelo State, allowing three hits and one run with one walk and three strikeouts.

Game 2

The Pioneers took an early lead in Game 2 with two runs in the first inning. Angelo State answered in the second when Abby Brand drove in a run with a single.

The Rambelles took their first lead in the third inning on a squeeze bunt by Taylor Haywood followed by a double steal, making it 3-2. Texas Woman’s tied the game in the fourth on an RBI double.

Angelo State broke the game open in the fifth inning with six consecutive hits that produced five runs. Tatiana Trotter and Zoey Sifuentes hit back-to-back doubles to start the rally, and Dendas followed with an RBI single. Bri Waters and Kamryn Loeffler each added RBI singles before Manney drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the inning.

Addy Ewing earned the win, pitching five innings and allowing three runs on eight hits. Maddison Ruiz threw the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Angelo State improved to 22-5 overall and 11-1 in Lone Star Conference play. Next up, the Rambelles hit the road to Oklahoma next weekend to face Oklahoma Christian and Cameron.
