SAN ANGELO, TX — The Charleys Philly Steaks restaurant inside Sunset Mall has been permanently closed by the San Angelo Tom Green County Health Department following a failed health inspection citing unsanitary conditions.
A violation notice posted inside the restaurant at 4001 Sunset Drive stated the location was in violation of section 7.02.065 of the health code, with the official reason listed as “unsanitary conditions.” The restaurant received a health inspection score of 55 on April 8, 2025. By April 28, the establishment was marked as “permanently closed” according to signage on site.
The health department has not publicly detailed the specific conditions leading to the closure.
This is the second time the Charleys Philly Steaks location in San Angelo has faced closure. In May 2022, the U.S. Department of Labor cited the restaurant for wage violations and multiple child labor law infractions.
According to a federal release at the time, the business instructed employees to clock out while continuing to work and allowed minors to exceed legal working hours and operate hazardous equipment, including a deep fryer.
A media request seeking further comment has been sent to the Health Services Director for the City of San Angelo.
