Drivers Dispute Green Light in San Angelo Crash

SAN ANGELO, TX — A Tuesday morning crash at a San Angelo intersection left one driver hospitalized and police without a clear answer on who had the right of way.

The collision happened about 9:50 a.m. at North Van Buren and Pecos streets when a black Dodge Charger traveling north on Van Buren struck a silver Nissan Rogue headed west on Pecos.

Both drivers told police they had a green light, and there were no witnesses or traffic cameras to confirm either account.

“One may have disregarded the red light, the other may have disregarded the red light — we don’t know,” an officer at the scene said, adding that insurance companies will have to determine fault.

Both vehicles had one occupant. While neither driver suffered incapacitating injuries, one was later taken to the hospital for evaluation.

The vehicles were towed from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
