Crash Near Rising Star Kills 74-Year-Old Man

RISING STAR, TX — A 74-year-old Rising Star man was killed Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on State Highway 36 about 1.5 miles from town, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

DPS said the crash happened at about 2 p.m. when a 2019 Kenworth T680 towing a flatbed trailer, driven by Noel Enrique Torrez-Carrasco, 31, of Houston, failed to control its speed and struck the rear of a 2025 Chevrolet Trax. The Chevrolet was stopped, yielding to traffic turning onto County Road 377.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Earl Morgan Wright, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Jesse Speer. His passenger, Stacey Marie Wright, 53, of Rising Star, was taken to Harris Methodist in Fort Worth with non-incapacitating injuries and was in stable condition.

Torrez-Carrasco was not injured. DPS said all occupants were wearing seat belts.

The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph. Road and weather conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash.
