SAN ANGELO, TX — The 17th Training Wing at Goodfellow Air Force Base has issued a final call for applications to its 2025-2026 Honorary Commander Program, with the deadline set for Friday, Aug. 29.
The yearlong program gives prominent San Angelo community leaders an inside look at the base’s mission and operations, offering what officials describe as an exclusive immersion into military culture. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of Goodfellow’s role in national security, which includes intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance training, as well as fire protection.
The program begins with an induction ceremony in November and concludes with graduation in November 2026. Throughout the year, Honorary Commanders will take part in base immersion events, attend ceremonies and demonstrations, and interact directly with Air Force leadership.
Officials stated that the program is designed to foster stronger ties between Goodfellow and the San Angelo community by providing firsthand insight into the base’s operations and traditions.
Local leaders interested in applying can find submission instructions on the Honorary Commander Program website.
