SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously Thursday night to table demolition of the former Sam Houston campus, giving the community time to explore possible future uses for the property.
Trustee Karla Cardenas, after visiting the site, asked the board to delay action to allow public input. “I just feel that there’s an opportunity there at that campus for maybe a community member to make an impact there in the barrio,” Cardenas said. “That way the public can have an opportunity to check it out for themselves as well and see if it’s a property that they’re interested in.”
Board President Taylor Kingman seconded the motion, noting that tabling the item would allow community members to reach out to the district if they are interested in the property.
The board voted 7-0 in favor of the delay. The demolition proposal is expected to return at a future meeting, depending on community response.
