SAN ANGELO, TX — Court documents reveal more information regarding a shooting that took place off North Chadbourne Street this past weekend.
Alan Helms, 37, of San Angelo, was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for shooting a man after getting into an argument.
According to court documents, the investigator learned from a police report that officers were dispatched to the intersection on West 9th Street and North Chadbourne Street regarding a shooting victim around 8:15 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they observed a female witness screaming for help and that her boyfriend had been shot by Alan Helms.
Officers placed Helms in handcuffs and secured him in a patrol vehicle. After, the victim was located on the ground between two vehicles in a pool of blood. Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the victim to Shannon Medical Center.
The investigator spoke with the female witness, who said she called 911 when she observed Helms pointing the gun at the victim. She then heard two gunshots and ran back to see what had happened, and that is when she saw the victim on the ground, covered in blood. When the officers arrived, she advised them that Helms had shot the victim.
The witness also said that she and Helms had gotten into an argument in his vehicle at the Catholic Outreach Services when she exited the vehicle. She began walking back to the game room located at 903 North Chadbourne Street when Helms drove back in her direction and said he was going to the game room to cause havoc and that the victim better not be there.
When the witness got closer to the game room, she heard two men arguing and went to see what was going on. She heard the victim say, “Why do you have to hide behind your gun?"
This is when the witness called 911 and ran to the game room to get help. As she was knocking on the door, she heard two gunshots come from the direction where Helms and the victim were arguing.
This is when she observed the victim laying on the ground and covered in blood.
Helms was arrested and booked into the Tom Green County Jail on September 21, 2025, and is currently being held on $350,000 bond.
