SAN ANGELO, TX — A San Angelo man accused of multiple sex crimes involving a teenager pled guilty Monday morning, ending his scheduled jury trial before it began.
Brian Antonio Garcia, 43, was indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury in November 2024 on seven felony charges, including four counts of sexual assault of a child, two counts of indecency with a child by exposure, and one count of indecency with a child by sexual contact.
The case was set for trial Monday in the 51st District Court with Judge Carmen Dusek presiding. Dusek entered the courtroom about 30 minutes late and informed the jury panel that Garcia had pled guilty to the charges.
Dusek told jurors the trial would have lasted all week and that jury selection alone would have extended well past 5 p.m. She thanked those summoned for jury duty, saying they would appreciate the work that had gone into reaching this point, and noted that the evidence in the case was “horrible.”
Dusek said Garcia must now register as a sex offender and that the victim, who was younger than 17 at the time of the offenses, is protected under a lifetime protective order.
According to the indictment, the crimes occurred on July 26 and Aug. 8, 2020.
