SAN ANGELO, TX — One person is confirmed dead following a major crash Tuesday evening on U.S. Highway 277 south near the Reece Road intersection, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS troopers initially responded to the crash at approximately 5:54 p.m. The dispatcher described the entrapment over the radio as an individual being “crushed under the vehicle.”
DPS confirmed the crash resulted in a fatality and involved two vehicles. The identity of the deceased has not been released.

Traffic on U.S. 277 was brought to a standstill for several hours following the crash. Northbound lanes into San Angelo were completely shut down, while southbound traffic was diverted onto Reece Road. Volunteer firefighters later cleared one lane, allowing vehicles to proceed slowly in alternating directions.
One vehicle was identified as a Chevy Blazer, which first responders focused on heavily. A second vehicle, a black passenger SUV, sustained heavy front-end damage and came to rest beyond the borrow ditch on the side of the roadway.
DPS troopers conducted a thorough crash investigation, marking the roadway with orange spray paint and using evidence markers and measuring tapes. Such procedures typically indicate a crash involving serious injury or death.
