Texas Department of Public Safety officers have been requested to investigate a single vehicle crash. A silver hatchback car or minivan was rolled over on its side in the dry creek bed next to the U.S. 277 South Pecan Street bridge, just south of San Angelo.
One person has been sent to the hospital with injuries. The Tom Green County Sheriff's Department and Pecan Creek VFD tended to the scene.
Traffic is not affected other than patrol officers asking passing motorists to slow down.
DPS is investigating. We will provide updates as they are available.
Update 8:29 p.m.
A witness at the scene who was interviewed by crash investigators just before us said that the driver, a male, crossed the oncoming lane of traffic before ending up in the dry creek bed.
"I was coming northbound and he was coming southbound and he crossed in front, about 150 feet in front of me, crossed my path, and just went off the embankment and went into the draw. That's when I turned back," he said.
Update June 19, 8:00 a.m.
The DPS said that the vehicle was a blue Toyota passenger car. The driver, Clifford Harold Clark, 56, of Christoval, was traveling southbound on U.S. 277. Clark's Toyota crossed into the northbound lane and drove off the east side of the roadway.
The vehicle continued south off the roadway and into Pecan Creek where the vehicle rolled on to its left side.
Clark was transported to the hospital via ambulance with incapacitating injuries.
Clark was issued a citation for Fail to Drive in a Single Lane.
DPS Trooper John Hoy was the investigator and said that fatigue may be a factor in this crash.
