Irving Rafe Vines

06/11/2016 - 16:31 , by johnb
Irving Rafe Vines began the journey of his miracle life on April 22, 2016. He lived surrounded by the incredible NICU doctors, nurses, techs, and therapists of Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. We were blessed by his sweet little smiles, his beautiful big eyes, and the strength of his fight until his triumphant entry through Heaven's gate on June 7, 2016. Just three days earlier, the family had the privilege of dedicating to God both Irving and big sister, Katriel in a ceremony in the NICU. It was an amazing time for parents, grandparents and several hospital staff to pray and bind together under God and to join the newly named godmother, Aunt Melissa, in agreeing to always guide the children in a biblical way.
Irving enjoyed having visitors and would often find a cute way to acknowledge their presence. He loved to listen to praise songs, look at colorful picture books, and have his hair combed.
Though he lived only a little over 6 weeks, Irving's life overflowed with God's power and with love from so many. His family received numerous daily encouragements, prayers, and gifts evidencing God's love and comfort. Irving displayed God's Might as he amazed the medical staff battling through an intestinal surgery at 3 days old, Ebstein's heart anamoly, and complications from a birth that was more than two months early. Every day with Irving Rafe was a blessing; even his nurses would volunteer for extra shifts to be able to be with him. Though we cannot understand how someone so young could affect so many, we are sure that God is continuing to use his life and trials to bring others to know Christ better. Irving's family feels both honored and humbled that God allowed them to know him, even for this short time.
Irving has joined his grandfather, Buddy Vines, and many of his great grandparents gathering around the throne in Glory. Survivors include his parents, Matt and Rita Marie Vines; sister, Katriel Vines; half-siblings, Nathaniel, Briana, and Hannah Vines; grandparents, Martin and Rita Hernandez, and Alice Vines-Crowe and Don Crowe; great grandmothers Asusana Caldera and Betty Stewart; aunts, Melissa "Missa" Vines and Katrina Hernandez; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
Non-profit organizations that were significant to Irving's life are West Texas Rehabilitation Center, Building Bridges of Hospice of San Angelo, Threads of Love, and Ambleside School of San Angelo.
Funeral services will be held to celebrate Irving's life on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10 AM at Glen Meadows Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
"In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." 1 Thess 5:18. Thank You, Lord, for caring so much for our son, Irving. Thank You for taking him to Your side. Thank You for letting us hold him, though we would have wanted him much longer, we know Your timing and Your Plan is absolutely perfect. We love you, Lord.

Ida Lee Hicks

06/07/2016 - 17:56 , by johnb

Mrs. Ida Lee Hicks passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Shannon Hospital. Mrs. Hicks was born April 10, 1919 in Jewett, TX to Selmo Perkins and Beulah Robinson. She had one brother, Willie who preceded her in death as well as her parents. The family relocated to Chickshaka, OK during Ida’s school years. After completion of high school she enrolled in Langston University where she met Joseph.
After Ida and Joseph marriage they relocated to St. Paul, MN. During World War II, Mrs. Hicks joined the Army in 1943 serving until 1946. Afterwards she began her career as a Librarian. After Joseph’s retirement they settled in San Angelo and united with St. Paul Baptist Church where they worked faithfully until moving to Christian Fellowship Baptist. There she served as Mission President, choir, musician, deaconess and Sunday school teacher.
Many will remember Ida as a serious, strong and faithful woman of God. While she truly loved her husband, Joseph, her first love was Jesus and she wanted everyone to know it. She had many interests that kept her life full and expanded her circle of friends.
Having no children, Ida adopted the Clarence and Rodessa Grays family soon after relocating to San Angelo. Proudly, she acknowledged them as her children. When they relocated from this area, she then embraced a very strong bond of trust with her best friend, Gloria DeWitt, who faithfully cared for her until her death.
She is survived by her children, Clarence and Rodessa, grandchildren, Jeff, Cory and Terry Smart, her best friend Gloria DeWitt, a host of relatives and other friends.
The Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Harper Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to share condolences and sign the online register book at www.harper-funeralhome.com.

Emmitt Gus Hoelscher

06/06/2016 - 18:38 , by johnb

Emmitt G. Hoelscher, 89, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at his residence. He was born Oct. 30, 1926, to Reinhold and Mary Franke Hoelscher in Rowena, Runnels County, Texas. He was united in marriage in Rowena, on June 15, 1949, to Joyce Dell Sladek of Miles, Texas, daughter of Victor and Anna Kneblik Sladek.
Emmitt was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Though he lived most of his life in San Angelo, Emmitt was raised on farms and farming, actively farmed for a time, and was a farmer at heart his whole life. He also dearly loved dancing, music, hobbies and crafts.
Emmitt was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Air Corp. in the Pacific theatre. After 29 years of employment with Newsfoto Yearbooks, Emmitt retired in December, 1988.
He is survived by his children Yvonne Hoelscher Scott, her husband, Ben, of Plano, Texas, Nick Hoelscher, his wife, Cindy, of Leander, Texas, Renee Hoelscher of Austin, Texas, and Vicki Hoelscher Hill, and her husband, Bruce, of Amarillo, Texas. He also is survived by five grandchildren, Amber Scott Blanco, Brandon Scott, Brittainy Hill Giese, Connor Hill and Michael Hoelscher. Emmitt also is survived by three great-grandchildren, Brielle, Blaydon and Branson Giese. He also is survived by two brothers Glen Hoelscher and wife Anna of Midland, Texas, Clifford Hoelscher and wife Jean of Midland, six sisters Adeline Holder and husband Bob of Winters, Texas, Lynette Lange of San Angelo, Mary Lou Jansa and husband Lester of Midland, Virginia Holder of San Angelo, Francine Halfmann of Fort Worth, Texas, and Ethel Berger and husband Eugene of San Angelo.
Emmitt was preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Joyce, and his brother Marvin.
A very special thank you to Dr. John Hunt for all of his years of dedicated medical care. Sincere thanks to Hospice of San Angelo and the dedicated team, Shirley Jones, Debbie Bishop, Veronica Dominguez and Cindy Peevy.
Rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 10. A Funeral Mass celebrating Emmitt's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 11, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 2309 A&M St., San Angelo.
Emmitt reprised his children often, especially over the past year, with the refrain that when the Lord was ready to take him from this world he was ready to be taken, having been blessed with a long full life, the most wonderful wife and most loving children a man could want, and loving, caring family and friends. So it is no surprise he leaves this message for everyone he knew: "Please do not grieve for me; my life was filled with a very loving family, good friends, laughter, smiles, hugs and kisses. But if my parting has left a void, fill it with love, laughter, prayer, and good deeds."
The children of Emmitt and Joyce are lifelong and heartfully thankful for the sacrificial giving and life examples of both parents, through which God has blessed and continues to bless each and all of them.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Hospice of San Angelo.
