High-Speed Crash in Abilene Kills Man After Sedan Pushes Box Truck

ABILENE, TX — A Weatherford man was killed after his sedan slammed into a box truck and pushed it a significant distance during a high-speed collision on I-20 in Abilene, police said.

Bryan Newsom, 41, was driving a 2016 Toyota Camry eastbound near exit 292A on Wednesday when the crash occurred. According to Abilene Police, Newsom struck the rear of a 2018 Freightliner box truck driven by Khua Ling, 56, of Dallas. Witnesses reported that the Toyota was traveling at a high rate of speed before the impact.

Newsom was trapped in his vehicle and died at the scene from his injuries. The Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division responded to investigate.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor. Investigators are also working to determine whether intoxication or distraction played a role in the crash. Newsom’s next of kin has been notified.
